waste of land

The city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands is internationally renowned for its cultural, architectural and land use diversity. But what is left behind? There are plenty of places where none of this seems to have taken root. There is no culture, no architecture, not even a snack bar in sight. Wastelands that seemingly belong to no one and that no one seems to take notice of.

I am temporarily occupying one of those spaces, located between tram tracks and a shopping centre. Armed with my blue camping chair and camera, I'm attempting to strike up conversations with people simply by being present. For exactly one hour, this wasteland is the setting for my play about space and purpose.
